The 'Globe-Swift' GC-1B, is a delightful little aircraft (I would say this, I have one!). It is a 'sports airplane', in the same sense, that you can have a 'sports car', as opposed to a family saloon.
Unfortunately, this can also bring the same problems, in that work on the plane can be a little more fiddly. However it also brings with it that certain 'magic'.
The 'Swifts' came into being, in the 1940's, with the main production, between 1946, and 1951. They were produced by two companies, Globe Aircraft Co, and the Texas Engineering and Manufacturing Company (TEMCO).
My Swift, was first licensed in 1948, and the earliest picture that I have of her, is in at White Waltham in 1951, bearing her Belgian registration 'OO-KAY' (Pictured below, 60k).
At present, she has one wing removed, awaiting the 'go ahead' from the licensing authority, to repair a previous repair. The authority to do this, has now been received, and rebuilding has begun.
The Swift has a enthusiastic following 'stateside', and a web page where a lot more information on this aircraft can be found
Below are a couple of loadable pictures (50/60k).
This aircraft was the subject of an article about the '35,000 pound mini-spitfire', in Flyer magazine, in October 1991. This magazine, has been kind enough, to give me permission to reproduce this article on the 'web, and this is attached below. The original article, occupied five pages, with the last couple being 'half pages' for advertisements. The copy here, has been 'compressed' into just four 'web pages'.
With very good wishes to you all.
